CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

We have the opportunity to offer multiple classes every day of the week for all styles of dance for students from 2 years of age through adults. Classes incorporate recreational, fitness, and competitive dance instruction from experienced and professional instructors. In addition to the classes listed below, throughout the year there will be new classes introduced, performance opportunities, conversions, recital participation options, master classes open to to the public, and other dance events offered.

*Ages are a general guideline for each class. VIM Staff reserves the right to enroll students in any class level of their choice regardless of their age. Some individual students may be in multiple classes that are of different levels considering that they may be more skilled in one style of dance than another.

TEENY BALLET
An introduction to ballet that allows your young dancer to explore creative movement while developing listening skills, poise, and proper body alignment. Dancers will engage in simple exercises to develop balance, coordination, strength, and dance technique.

TEENY JAZZHOP & TINY DIVAS & DUDES
Build your dancer’s confidence while expressing their “funk” during this class that introduces basic jazz and hip-hop technique and style. Your young dancer will explore rhythm, movements and music while developing listening skills in a fun upbeat environment.

TEENY TAP
A great class for your little one who likes to be on the move, introducing them to basic tap and jazz steps. Your young dancer will explore rhythm, movements, and music while developing listening skills, posture, and confidence.

TEENY TUMBLE
Delve into basic tumbling skills while incorporating “fresh” dance moves. Dancers will engage in simple exercises to develop balance, coordination, strength, and dance while developing listening skills.

MINI/BEGINNER HIP-HOP
Beginner hip-hop for those young dancers just starting out. This is a great introduction to dance to get your young dancer moving.

MINI Ballet
Your dancers’ first formal introduction to a ballet class structure. More advanced stretching and strengthening exercises given, barre work introduced with a greater emphasis on ballet terminology.

MINI LYRICAL/ CONTEMPORARY
This class gives students the opportunity to experience lyrical dance, which combines techniques and skills from ballet, jazz and modern. Your dancer will also explore how lyrical dance emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics to tell a story with movement.


LEVEL 1/2 Ballet
Advanced stretching and strengthening exercises are given, barre work continued with an increasing emphasis on vocabulary. Ongoing emphasis placed on balance and coordination through the strengthening of the body core.

LEVEL 1/2 Lyrical
This class gives dancers the opportunity to continue to explore lyrical dance, combining techniques and skills from ballet, jazz and modern. Your dancer will develop their skills interpreting music lyrics to tell a story with movement.

LEVEL 1/2 Hip-Hop
Dancers will be encouraged to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.

LEVEL 1/2 Jazz
This class will focus on learning proper dance technique, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns.

LEVEL 3/4 Ballet
Requirements minimum of 2-3 years of ballet. This level continues to challenge the student with more complex combinations at the barre and in center, the student with work on fluidity of movement, balance, and combinations.

LEVEL 3/4 Contemporary/Lyrical
This class is for the intermediate to advanced dancer with previous training in ballet. Dancers will continue to explore the emphasis of the interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story through movement.

LEVEL 3/4 Jazz
Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the- floor progressions, and combinations.

LEVEL 3/4 Hip-Hop
High energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, encouraging the dancer to have strength and stamina to successfully perform the moves. Class includes body conditioning and a rigorous warm-up.

LEVEL 3/7 Floor barre
Floor barre is a class used to improve technique and strengthen the core. Pilates based exercises.

PRE-POINTE
This class is dedicated to teaching pointe fundamentals to students of the appropriate age and technical ability.

POINTE
Instructor placement only. Two ballet classes are required along with pointe class.

BARRE (Ages 12 to Adult)
Barre is a workout series of movement that strengthens the entire body and ensures that no muscle is overlooked with the combination of functional strength, dance, Pilates and Yoga. We focus on alignment and optimal posture while enhancing body awareness, coordination, balance and overall strength.

WERQ (Ages 12 to Adult)
WERQ (pronounced “work”) is the wildly addictive dance fitness class based on the hottest pop, rock, and hip-hop music. Since its debut in Chicago, WERQ has been featured as one of the hottest workouts in the US. WERQ makes dance accessible to every level of student and includes quality instruction by Certified Fitness Professional.
